The impact of anti-money laundering regulations on inclusive finance: Evidence from Sub-Saharan Africa

This study examined the impact of AML regulations on financial inclusion in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Again, assessed whether level regulatory effectiveness determines inclusion. The employed Systems Generalized Methods Moments (SGMM) estimation technique to assess influence for a panel 44 SSA countries from 2012–2019. Data is sourced World Development Indicators and Basel Institute Governance. showed that negatively accounts ownership number commercial bank branches whereas have positive depositors, borrowers, ATMs. Further, provided evidence positively borrowers low-effectiveness (countries with below mean). In contrast, reported negative high-effectiveness above mean), while ATMs mean. findings imply depends proxy also extent countries. uniqueness this its specific focus assessing SSA.
